LIONS INSIDER

CB Chris Houston says he will play Sunday at Oakland

Posted Dec 14, 2011

Lions corner Chris Houston was back on the practice field for the Lions Wednesday after missing the last two games with a sprained MCL he suffered against the Packers on Thanksgiving.

“I’m ready to go get back out there with my teammates and make a push for this run," he said after practice.

Houston was officially listed as limited on Wednesday’s injury report but said he fully expects to play in Oakland on Sunday.

“I’m going to be back out there this weekend to help the team out,” he said.

Safety Louis Delmas, who also suffered a sprained MCL on Thanksgiving, did not practice Wednesday and his status for Sunday is still a question mark.

Delmas has missed the Lions’ last two games after his knee was rolled up on early in the first quarter against the Packers.

Rookie defensive tackle Nick Fairley was back on the practice field in limited fashion after missing the Vikings game with a foot injury.

“We’re trying to get the script down to where I can get all the swelling out of it and then I can try and play through the soreness,” Fairley said.

Fairley said the injury isn’t any worse but also won’t get any better until he rests it in the offseason. He said it’s about playing through the discomfort for the rest of the season.

Running back Kevin Smith did not participate in practice with that high ankle sprain. He instead was working on the side with Jason Arapoff, the team's coordinator of physical development.

Smith has been dealing with a high ankle sprain and didn't play against the Vikings.

“I got a lot of my swelling out and I’m taking it day-by-day,” he said after practice. “I’m getting better in my movements and better in my cuts.”

Corners Aaron Berry (shoulder) and Eric Wright (hamstring) were also absent from practice.

Berry was injured in the first half against the Vikings and didn’t return.

Wright tweaked a hamstring in the second half but was able to return to the game in a limited fashion on the game’s final drive.

We'll learn more about their status for Sunday as the week moves on.

Linebacker Justin Durant (hamstring) and defensive end Lawrence Jackson (thigh bruise) did not practice, either.

“We’ve had some injuries, but you know, we’re looking to get all those guys back,” said Lions coach Jim Schwartz. “Anybody that’s not on the injured/reserve, whether or not it will be this week, it’s still too early to tell.”

Safety Amari Spievey showed up on the injury report as a limited participant in practice with a knee. Defensive end Willie Young (ankle) was also limited.

Defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch was on his typical Wednesday of rest.

The Raiders were without RB Darren McFadden (foot), RB Taiwan Jones (hamstring), S Michael Huff (ankle), DT John Henderson (knee) and WR Jacoby Ford (foot) at practice Wednesday.
