"We're thrilled to have the Detroit Lions on board as presenting sponsor to kick-off the fourth season of our Tuesday Market," said Fiona Ruddy, Tuesday Market Manager and Director of Food Access for Detroit Eastern Market. "The Tuesday Market has proven to be an important market for shoppers looking to buy high-quality, affordable produce and gain exposure to wellness activities while shopping."
The Detroit Lions support of the Tuesday Market began with the second annual Taste of the Lions event, which raised $100,000 for Eastern Market. This partnership will include the expansion of the “Meet Up and Eat Up” program with Ford Motor Company, United Way of Southeastern Michigan, Playworks Detroit, Fair Food Network, Gleaners, Wayne State University and Detroit Public Schools. Held at Eastern Market during the fall, this program strives to bring awareness and education to the youth of Detroit on the importance of eating fresh, healthy foods and staying active.
“As part of the Living for the City community initiative, we are deeply committed to Eastern Market and its efforts to improve access for Detroiters to healthy, fresh food,” said Tom Lewand, Detroit Lions team president. “The health and wellness of our fans is one of our top priorities, and the Tuesday Market is a great opportunity for our team and our partners to bring education and awareness to this important issue facing our city.”
The Tuesday Market, open 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., is a seasonal market day that aligns with the harvest season and runs June 17th through October 28th with a special holiday market the week of Thanksgiving on Tuesday, November 25th.
Tuesday Market also features additional wellness programming such as a Detroit Public Library Bookmobile, midday yoga and Zumba classes and cooking demonstrations for seniors.
