Postgame Quotes: St. Louis Rams

HEAD COACH STEVE SPAGNUOLO

Opening statement
“Let me give you the injuries. Randy has got a rib injury, a bruised rib right now, we’ll find out more about it. Jacob Bell was a head, and that’s why he was out so we’ll know more, I’m not going to call it a concussion until we find out. Amendola had the same thing, he got dinged in the head, and Paris Lenon when he came out it was his back but he felt like he was O.K. so he went back in. And I think that’s it for injuries.

“Obviously I’m very happy about the win, I think the guys played their guts out. We talked about it all week, they never quit, I mean even during the week at practice, which was a tough one because you come off a tough loss and seven of them, but they continue to work. I’m just so proud and happy that they now have a reward, and it’s just one reward, this isn’t the end but I just prayed for them to have a reward for all the work that they put in and finally they got that. It’s short-lived, it is a little nice that we’ve got two weeks to enjoy it, but it is only one and we didn’t get in this thing and work hard just to win one game, so we’ll get back to work after we enjoy this one. But it sure feels good.”

On taking a gatorade bath for his first win
“All I know is it makes me cold, I’ve got to get out of these quick, but it felt good that was kind of nice.”

On what the win means to him
“No, probably not. It’s special, I know I’ll remember it for a long time, what makes it most special is the people that it happened with. It’s a special group of guys. I know when you’ve been through a lot, especially the guys that have been around, they never quit, bought in, stayed with it, never leaned the other way, I never saw that, so to their credit they hung in there and it’s a special group and I feel proud to be part of the group.”

On the Rams locker room after the game
“As you can imagine they’re ecstatic. It’s so hard to win in this league. I’ve been lucky enough and blessed enough to be on teams that have won 10 games during the season then you get the 11th. The 11th still feels like it was your first win or you worked your guts out to win a game because it is so hard to win in this league. Every coach will tell you that because the talent across the board on both teams is always really good, so it’s special.”

On RB Steven Jackson scoring the winning touchdown
“That was especially special because it was him and the way he did it, that’s Steven. Just the way the run, breaking all those tackles and busting into the open, he was determined to get into the end zone and that’s what he’s all about.”

QB MARC BULGER

On the play of Steven Jackson
“He played like Steven (Jackson) does every week. Unfortunately for him people don’t get to see how great of a back he is because win or lose, that’s how he runs, and I’m glad he finally got to get in the end zone, and we finally get a win.”

On what’s going through your mind when you noticed that he was going to score his first touchdown of the season
“I was excited. We’ve been snake pitting it a little bit, just hoping he didn’t trip on his way into the end zone. We were looking around for flags and once he got in, we were excited, but then I looked and there was still a lot of time. You didn’t want celebrate prematurely but it was good to get the touchdown, instead of a field goal.”

On Rams TE Billy Bajema contributions off the bench
“He’s been consistent all year in practice. When he got his opportunity, his hands looked like they had stick’em on them. It’s didn’t look pretty when catches it but rarely does he drop in practice and he’s one of those guys that goes to work every day and works hard.”

On if you forgot what it felt like to celebrate a win in the locker room
“It’s been a while. Paris (Lenon) over there, it has been 23 – 24 for him. That’s one of those records that we won’t break now.”

On before the fake field goal and did you call timeout to set it up
“We were getting to the line a little bit late. Danny (Amendola) wasn’t quite sure on his route, I know that. It didn’t feel comfortable. I thought it was an important part of the game and coach really hates to waste timeouts or use them at all, but I was willing to go over and take the fall for it because it was an important part, and fortunately it worked out.”

On if you had any chance to talk to Matthew Stafford after the game
“I didn’t. He’s going to be a great player. You see how physically talented he is in how he can throw the ball around at different angles. It will take time. You got to learn, so stick with it. There have been times where I have problems but he’s going to be a good player.”

RB STEVEN JACKSON

On how much this win means
“It means a lot. We’ve been working hard since March to win a game and unfortunately we lost seven in a row coming into today. It means a lot because we worked hard to finally get a victory.”

On what is coming up now
“We’ve got the bye week coming up this week so we get a chance to mend up and get healthy. We’ve got to keep getting wins somehow and keep *scratching the call* and try to get wins.”

On his expectations coming into the game
“Of course because they were 1-6 or something like that and they know we needed a victory so we knew they were going to come out and try to play us hard but we (made) plays we needed to today and we finally got a win.”

On whether there will be any celebration tonight
“Not for me. I’ve been here a long time so I’m just happy for these young guys because they work hard and they finally got a victory. They know how it feels to finally win a game.”
