Allen Park, Mich. — The Detroit Lions have announced the dates for its two spring fundraisers for Detroit Lions Charities (DLC), the Lions' philanthropic foundation. The eighth annual Detroit Lions' Tony Filippis Memorial Bocce Tournament will be held on Wednesday, May 23, hosted by Palazzo di Bocce in Orion Township. The 22nd annual Detroit Lions (golf) Invitational will be held on Wednesday, June 6, at TPC Michigan in Dearborn.
The bocce and golf outings are two of the Lions' major fundraisers that have helped DLC donate more than $6.2 million to charity since 1991.
Lions' Head Coach Jim Schwartz will be a chairman for both spring fundraisers and will be joined at the events by many of his Lions' players and staff as well as former Lions' players. Each event also offers the opportunity to bid on unique items through auctions.
Proceeds from the bocce tournament will go to DLC to benefit the Athletes with Disabilities Network and various other charities in Michigan. The tournament is named in honor of the late Tony Filippis, long-time advocate for the disabled community who died at age 91 in 2007.
This year's tournament will be led by Coach Schwartz and other chairmen Tony Battaglia and AJ Filippis, and is designed as a fun event for persons of all bocce skill levels at the nation's finest indoor bocce facility.
The Detroit Lions Invitational combines 18 holes of golf on one of Michigan's outstanding courses with good food and, like with the bocce tournament, an opportunity to meet many current and former Lions' players and coaches. The outing concludes with a dinner featuring Coach Schwartz as guest speaker.
The golf and bocce outings are open to the public with sponsorships and event tickets available. For more information, contact Detroit Lions Community Affairs at 313-216-4171.
